Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois residents can expect a dramatic shift in weather patterns this week. Quiet and below-normal temperatures will start the week, but a significant heatwave is anticipated by midweek, with heat indices peaking in the upper 90s on Thursday.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, cooler than normal conditions on Monday and Tuesday will give way to increasing heat on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures are forecast to rise steadily, with highs reaching 86-91°F on Wednesday and soaring to 90-94°F by Thursday. The heat index is expected to climb between 95-100°F, creating potentially dangerous heat conditions.

Along with the heat, scattered storms are forecast for Thursday afternoon and evening. Some of these storms could be strong to severe, posing a risk of damaging winds, heavy rain, and possible hail. The combination of high heat and severe weather could create hazardous conditions for residents across the region.

The National Weather Service advises staying informed through weather updates and taking necessary precautions, especially during peak heat hours. Those with outdoor plans should be prepared for sudden weather changes and seek shelter during storms.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat, and monitor weather alerts as the week progresses.
