Champaign County, IL – Prescribed Burns Announced for This Week in Forest Preserves

Champaign County, IL – The Champaign County Forest Preserves will be undergoing prescribed burns in Mahomet on the 11th and 12th of March, aiming to enhance ecological health. 

According to a notice from Sgt. Goodwin of the Mahomet Police Department, the efforts commence today at the River Bend Forest Preserve at 2 pm, focusing on old field and tree planting sites in upland areas. The series continues tomorrow at the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve, starting at 2 pm, with attention to prairie restoration and old field sites at Stidham Woods, along with old field sites in Buffalo Trace. 

Community members are advised to exercise caution and stay informed on safety measures during these events.
