Champaign, IL – Champaign Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of W. Springfield Avenue around 7:34 p.m. on March 18, 2024, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, a 46-year-old local man was found in medical distress, initially thought to be unrelated to the shooting.
He was later discovered to have a gunshot wound after being transported to a hospital for treatment. The incident occurred as the victim was entering an apartment building and was confronted and shot at by three unidentified assailants who subsequently fled the scene.
The Champaign Police Department is actively investigating, canvassing for witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage to aid in the apprehension of the suspects. They encourage anyone with external surveillance systems to come forward. While no arrests have been made yet, the investigation continues, and the police are offering cash rewards for information leading to arrests.
