LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport Police Department is joining hands with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to commemorate the Illinois Child Passenger Safety Week from Sept. 17-23. The highlight? A free car seat check event on National Seat Check Saturday, Sept. 23.

For parents in Lockport, this is a golden opportunity. Head to Walmart at 16241 S Farrell Rd between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm this Saturday, and certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will ensure your child’s car seat is installed right. A recent NHTSA data reveals a startling 46% of car seats are misused. Whether it’s a wrongly chosen seat for the child’s age or a flawed installation, such mistakes can have dire consequences.

The initiative, supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, is among 92 such events across the state. Funded by federal traffic safety funds from NHTSA and administered by IDOT, the primary message remains clear: Ensure children’s safety on the road, regardless of trip length.
