Champaign, IL – Police Investigate Late-Night Shooting on West Springfield Avenue

Champaign, IL – A late-night shooting on West Springfield Avenue in Champaign has left a 29-year-old local man injured, prompting a police investigation. 

According to the Champaign Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of W. Springfield Avenue shortly before midnight on April 8, 2024, responding to reports of a shooting. At the scene, they found the victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Immediate medical aid was provided by the officers, with the Champaign Fire Department assisting, before the man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is now in stable condition.

The police are now seeking the public’s help to gather more information about the incident, as details from the scene remain limited. Efforts to canvass the area for witnesses and video footage are ongoing. The Champaign Police Department encourages residents and businesses with exterior surveillance systems to come forward. No arrests have been made, but the investigation continues, with updates to be provided as new information emerges.
