LOMBARD, IL – A routine stop for Cheetos allegedly took a sinister turn as a Chicago man and a Park Ridge woman were apprehended for their alleged involvement in a daring gas station robbery.
David Bonner, 50, of Chicago’s North Luna, and Brianne Crannell, 22, residing on Park Ridge’s Devon Avenue, have been detained in connection with the incident, shining a spotlight on the brazen crime.
It began August 8th with an armed robbery at the Marathon Gas Station on 931 E. Roosevelt Road. Crannell, seemingly inconspicuous, entered the store, making a seemingly innocent purchase before joining Bonner in their getaway vehicle. However, what allegedly transpired next was far from ordinary.
Donning a ski mask, Bonner reportedly confronted the store clerk with a knife, allegedly making off with approximately $210 in cash and several cartons of cigarettes. Swift police action, involving Lombard, Bellwood, Melrose Park, Villa Park, and Illinois State Police, led to the arrest of the suspects. After a high-speed chase, all three suspects were apprehended, and a knife was recovered.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin underscored the gravity of the situation, stating, “The allegations that these two defendants robbed a gas station store clerk at knifepoint in daylight hours are extremely serious.” Both defendants are being held on $1 million bonds, sending a strong message against violent crime.
The next court appearance is set for September 5, 2023, offering further insight into this ongoing case.
