Chicago, IL – A significant recall has been initiated by Electrolux Group, affecting approximately 383,240 Frigidaire branded side-by-side refrigerators.
Announced on February 8, 2024, the recall is in response to a serious choking risk identified with these refrigerators. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported that the ice bucket assembly component in these refrigerators can break, potentially leading to plastic pieces entering the ice bucket. This poses choking and laceration hazards if dispensed.
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the ice makers and contact Electrolux Group for a free replacement ice bucket assembly component. So far, Electrolux Group has received 343 reports of the plastic pieces breaking off, including two incidents that resulted in laceration and ingestion injuries.
The recalled refrigerators were available for purchase at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and various other stores nationwide, as well as online at Frigidaire.com, from November 2015 through September 2019, with prices ranging from $1,400 to $2,400. More information about this recall can be found on the CPSC website.
