Chicago, IL – Residents across the Chicagoland area are advised to exercise caution as foggy conditions and melting snow present multiple hazards.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, dense fog has spread throughout the region this morning and is expected to persist throughout the day. This weather phenomenon, combined with lingering slick spots on untreated roads, particularly back roads, necessitates extra care while driving.

In addition to the fog, with temperatures rising above freezing in the coming days, there is a heightened risk of melting snow and ice falling from buildings and other structures. The public is urged to be vigilant, especially when walking near tall buildings or under overhanging structures.

Local authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary travel and staying alert to changing weather conditions.
