Chicago, IL – A Chicago man has been taken into custody, facing attempted murder charges linked to a violent expressway shooting incident that occurred last November.
According to Illinois State Police, on November 23, 2022, officers responded to reports of a harrowing expressway shooting along Interstate 57 northbound, close to 99th Street. Multiple gunshots were fired from a suspect’s vehicle, striking another vehicle and injuring its driver. Fortunately, the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
After months of intensive investigation, authorities apprehended the alleged perpetrator, 29-year-old Damarco Watkins-Romaine of Chicago, IL, on August 31, 2023. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a series of serious charges against him, including Attempted Murder (Class X Felony), Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony), and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony).
During a bond hearing on September 1, 2023, Watkins-Romaine’s bond was set at $350,000, with an option for release only payment of 10%.
