Child killed after being hit by Bus Friday afternoon

PARK FOREST – A 7-year-old child is being mourned by staff and students of a local school Saturday morning after they were struck and killed by a school bus.

According to Park Forest police, it happened in the 100 block of Walnut Street Friday afternoon just after 3 p.m.  Further details surround the crash are unknown at this time.

When paramedics arrived on the scene life saving measures were administered before the child was sent to nearby Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

The bus that hit the child is owned by Kickert Bus Company and was transporting students from Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163 when the incident occurred.

The bus driver, who’s name has not yet been released, and various witnesses were being interviewed Friday evening by investigators.

Crisis counselors will be on had this weekend and next week for students and staff of School District 163.   Anyone with information surrounding the event is asked to contact Park Forest Police Investigations Division at 708-748-1309.
