Coal City, IL – A significant disruption occurred at Coal City Middle School on January 15, 2024, when a sprinkler pipe burst, leading to widespread water damage.
According to Superintendent Christopher T. Spencer of Coal City School District #1, the main office, commons area, some Encore classrooms, and several 6th grade classrooms were affected. Servpro Commercial and Residential Restoration Services were promptly hired for mitigation efforts.
The school administration has devised a plan to relocate the affected office and classrooms temporarily. While there will be no alteration to the normal school day schedule, the school will remain closed to students on Wednesday, January 17, to allow Servpro and school staff additional time for restoration and cleaning. This closure ensures a safe environment for the return of students and staff on Thursday.
However, all after-school activities will proceed as planned.
