DeKalb County, IL – A somber mood envelops Illinois as law enforcement officers statewide pay tribute to DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina Musil, who was fatally injured in a crash on Route 23 late Thursday night.

Deputy Musil, 35, an Army National Guard veteran who served a tour in Afghanistan, dedicated five years of service to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. The collision that ended her watch occurred when her stationary patrol vehicle was struck from behind by a truck, as per the Sheriff’s Office’s report.

Across Illinois, police departments from Woodridge to Rockford are sending a cascade of condolences, a testament to Musil’s profound impact and the brotherhood within the force. Her dual role as a community protector and a defender of national security through her service in the National Guard underscores the magnitude of the loss felt.

The Illinois State Police and the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office are actively investigating the incident to determine its cause.
