Dixon, IL – An 18-year-old Dixon man was apprehended by local authorities for an alleged armed robbery at a Casey’s store. According to the Dixon Police Department, Benjamin D. Kelley faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Robbery, Robbery, and Theft, following the incident early on February 14.
The police received a 911 call around 2:07 am about a robbery at Casey’s. Witnesses reported that the suspect, later identified as Kelley, had entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded cash. Kelley, described as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, light pants, and a mask, allegedly fled southbound after the incident.
A collaborative effort between Dixon Police and Lee County Sheriff’s deputies led to Kelley’s arrest at approximately 3:15 am. A deputy spotted Kelley, who matched the suspect’s description and was fleeing on foot. Kelley was eventually detained by police officers at the intersection of Squires Avenue and Lincolnway. During his apprehension, a BB gun resembling a Glock handgun was found on Kelley.
Kelley is currently being held at the Lee County Jail, with the investigation ongoing and additional charges pending. Dixon Police urge anyone with information on illegal activities to contact them or Crimestoppers, with potential cash rewards for information leading to arrests.
