EDWARDSBURG, Mich. – A fatal twist of fate on U.S. 12 led to the death of a 60-year-old Edwardsburg motorcyclist late Friday night.

While traveling just east of East Shore Drive, eastbound in the westbound lane, James Tevlin found himself on a collision course. In a simultaneous and ill-timed attempt to avoid an accident, both Tevlin and a 24-year-old Cassopolis driver swerved into the eastbound lane, resulting in a head-on crash.

Despite immediate attention by the Edwardsburg Ambulance Service and a swift MedFlight response, Tevlin succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police later confirmed that Tevlin was not wearing a helmet during the incident.
