Indiana Woman Airlifted to Chicago Following 4-Car Distracted Driving Crash on I-65

LOWELL, IN – A harrowing chain-reaction crash on I-65 in Hobart caused major delays Monday afternoon. 

According to Indiana State Police reports the incident unfolded when Joseph Llano, 39, of Merrillville, allegedly drove distractedly into slowing traffic, instigating a four-car pileup. A 40-year-old Indiana woman, trapped in her Chevy Malibu, was rescued by Merrillville Fire and urgently airlifted to the University of Chicago for treatment. 

Several others, including three juveniles, reported injuries. Authorities quickly dispelled suspicions of drugs or alcohol as contributing factors.
