Earlville Man Arrested in Dixon, IL for Vehicle Theft and Multiple Felonies

Dixon, IL – A late-night vehicle theft in Dixon, Illinois, led to a high-stakes pursuit and subsequent arrest on February 18th. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported motor vehicle theft at 291 IL Route 2 around 10:26 P.M. The stolen vehicle was intercepted by the Dixon Police Department as it entered Dixon city limits.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Earlville resident William Whitford, was arrested following the incident. Whitford faces multiple charges, including a Class 1 Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Class 2 Felony for both Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer. Additional charges include Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer (Class 4 Felony), Criminal Trespass to Vehicle, and Driving while License Revoked (both Class A Misdemeanors), along with a Failure to Appear Warrant for Parole Violation.

Whitford is currently held at the Lee County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
