Orlando, Florida – Afternoon thunderstorms packing 55 mph winds and frequent lightning are expected to continue hammering Central Florida through early next week, with the highest risk of flooding and gusty conditions arriving each afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a slow-moving system will fuel storms from west to east across cities like Orlando, Kissimmee, and Daytona Beach today, with a 70% rain chance in the metro area. Heat index values could still reach 107°F, despite slightly cooler temperatures than earlier this week.
Localized rain totals of 2 to 4 inches may trigger minor flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas. The region’s daily storm cycle will remain active, with precipitation chances hovering near 60% across the board through at least Wednesday. Lightning and cloud-to-ground strikes remain a serious concern during commutes and outdoor plans.
Travelers should watch for water pooling on roads during rush hour, especially along I-4 and U.S. Route 192. Residents are urged to charge mobile devices, avoid outdoor activity during peak lightning hours, and stay weather-aware through the weekend.
More advisories could be issued if rainfall or storm intensity increases through the start of the workweek.
