Knox County, IL – A tragic collision involving two vehicles in Knox County claimed the life of one individual and injured several others on Friday afternoon.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident took place at the junction of Knox Highway 4 and Knox Highway 15 around 2:14 p.m. Friday. A red 1994 Pontiac, driven by a 41-year-old man from Toulon ran a stop sign while heading north on Knox Highway 15. Subsequently, a white 2004 Chevrolet truck, moving west on Knox Highway 4, collided with the passenger side of the Pontiac. This impact forced both vehicles off the road to the north.
The collision resulted in the death of a 38-year-old female passenger from Toulon in the Pontiac. The driver of the Pontiac was airlifted with life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the Chevrolet, a 24-year-old woman from Toulon was taken to a hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Additionally, a 2-year-old child and a 28-year-old man, both from Toulon received medical evaluations following the crash.
The Pontiac’s driver faces charges for disobeying a stop sign, failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and driving with a suspended license. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from local agencies, is conducting a thorough investigation into the accident. Names of the involved parties are withheld pending notification of their families.
