Fire Claims Young Child’s Life in Wayne County, Indiana

Centerville, IN – A devastating fire in Centerville, Indiana, led to the tragic loss of a young child on Sunday evening. 

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, emergency calls about a structure fire in the 4700 Block of South Centerville Road were received just after 3:00 PM. Despite rapid response and rescue efforts by numerous first responders, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation into this tragic incident is underway, involving the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Wayne County Coroner. The family of the child and the first responders, who are deeply affected by this tragedy, are being supported by the community and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Chaplaincy Program. 

The incident brought together multiple agencies, including the Abington, Boston, Centerville, Greens Fork, and Liberty Fire Departments, Reid Health EMS, Centerville Police Department, Wayne County Highway Department, and the American Red Cross.
