Toddler Dead After Reportedly Shooting Self at Indiana Home

Merrillville, IN – The Lake County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of an apparent accidental shooting in Merrillville as 3-year-old King Penro. 

According to police, the incident occurred on West 79th Place around 5:45 p.m. on Monday. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and discovered the injured toddler. Initial reports suggest the child may have accidentally shot himself, but the circumstances remain under investigation. Penro was transported to Southlake Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case, and no arrests have been made at this time. Family members are reportedly cooperating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation.
