The situation escalated when officers located a suspect on the 2900 Block of 11th Street in south Rockford. During the confrontation, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in the death of the K-9 officer and non-life-threatening injuries to the suspect.

The fallen K-9, named “Nyx,” served with the Rockford Police Department.
