Frankfort, IL – A severe winter storm led to the collapse of the Green Garden Country Club’s golf dome in suburban Frankfort, Illinois, on Friday.
The Frankfort Fire Protection District reported that the dome, part of the club’s indoor driving range, succumbed to the combined effects of heavy snow, rain, and gusty winds. The dome’s structure is maintained by pressurization and began to sag, causing an internal light pole to puncture the lining, leading to the collapse.
There were no injuries in this incident, but the dome is now out of commission. The extent of the financial damage is still being assessed. Located at 9511 W Manhattan-Monee Road, the Green Garden Country Club is a well-known local golfing venue.
This event underscores the challenges that extreme weather poses to structures in the region, emphasizing the need for preparedness and resilience against severe winter conditions.
