The scammers have been using the department’s non-emergency number to make threats of arrest and demand personal information, such as social security numbers. Residents are advised not to share any personal details over the phone and to verify any suspicious calls by contacting the police directly.

This advisory comes in response to several incidents reported by individuals outside of Lake County, underscoring the importance of vigilance against such fraudulent activities.
