Houston Man Arrested in Iroquois County, IL, with 49 Pounds of Drugs on I-57

Ashkum, IL – A major drug trafficking incident was thwarted by the Illinois State Police on Monday. 

According to Illinois State Police reports,Juan Carlos Oliva Lopez, a 45-year-old man from Houston, TX, was arrested on Interstate 57 northbound, just south of Ashkum in Iroquois County. During a routine federal motor carrier safety compliance inspection, an ISP trooper noticed several signs of criminal activity. This led to a consent search of Lopez’s Freightliner semi, reportedly uncovering approximately 49 pounds of suspected cocaine/fentanyl, valued at almost $700,000.

Lopez is currently held at the Iroquois County Jail, facing charges of Controlled Substance Trafficking, a Class X Felony. Additional details about the case have not been disclosed.
