Illinois Man Arrested for Stealing Food Pantry Bus in Reported Hospital Trip Attempt

Watseka, Illinois – An Illinois man was apprehended for allegedly stealing a bus belonging to a Pembroke Township food pantry, with claims of needing it to reach a hospital. 

According to police reports Edward T. Handy, 40, of Watseka, was arrested late Thursday night by Kankakee County Sheriff’s deputies. The incident unfolded when the bus owner, returning to a Main Street residence in Pembroke, found the vehicle missing and a Jeep, later identified as stolen from Watseka, abandoned on the property. 

The bus was subsequently located in Bradley. Handy, who refused medical treatment at the scene, faces charges for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
