MORRIS, IL – Nicholas Matteson, 32,  pleaded guilty last week to Aggravated Battery To a Child, a class X felony, in Grundy County.

The Morris Police Department arrested Matteson after a domestic disturbance in June 2022. Prosecutors say Matteson stuck his fingers into the baby’s mouth, interrupting the child’s meal, and threw the infant to the ground. The baby sustained a fractured skull and other injuries, requiring immediate medical attention.

Under the deal, Attempted Murder charges were dropped by prosecutors.

Scheduled for October, Matteson’s sentencing by Grundy County Judge Sheldon Sobol may result in up to 9 years in prison, per the plea agreement. Matteson has been incarcerated for the past year.
