KANKAKEE, IL – An Illinois chemical manufacturing facility in Kankakee is facing accusations of Clean Air Act violations.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed a lawsuit against the current owner, Kensing LLC, and former owner, BASF Corporation, alleging hazardous air pollutant control standards. The lawsuit resulted in two consent orders, with both companies paying $178,000 in civil penalties.

The facility, located at 2525 South Kensington Road, was investigated by the Illinois EPA, raising environmental justice concerns due to its location in an Environmental Justice (“EJ”) area, centering around replacing a carbon absorption system at the Facility .

The violations include National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants and Clean Air Act Program Permit Conditions.

As the legal proceedings continue, the focus remains on safeguarding air quality and the well-being of residents in Kankakee and beyond.
