Aurora, Illinois – A parolee at the time of the incident, 27-year-old Jose J. Gonzalez, has been sentenced to 44 years in prison after pleading guilty to the first-degree murder of a 17-year-old girl. This sentence was announced by Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser, bringing a somber resolution to the case that unfolded in August 2022.
Gonzalez, who resided in the 900 block of Lebanon Street in Aurora, was involved in a tragic incident that occurred in the home he shared with the victim, her older sister, and four others. In court, First Assistant State’s Attorney Christine C. Bayer described the events of August 4, where Gonzalez entered the victim’s bedroom, leading to a physical altercation and the subsequent stabbing of the young girl three times.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, respecting the family’s privacy, has refrained from naming the victim. Judge William Engerman accepted Gonzalez’s guilty plea, and in addition to the prison term, Gonzalez is required to register as a Violent Offender Against Youth.
Gonzalez must serve the entire sentence under Illinois law and receives credit for 496 days already served in the Kane County jail.
ASA Bayer highlighted the victim’s family’s role as staunch advocates throughout the trial and expressed hope for their peace. She also thanked the Aurora Police Department and the Illinois State Police Forensic Laboratory for their thorough investigation.
