SPRINGFIELD – Statewide positivity crossed into double digits Saturday afternoon as Illinois recorded a record number of cases to start the weekend. Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported for the first time over 12,000 single day cases (12,438), including 76 deaths.
Among today’s deaths included two residents from Will, Vermilion, and Kankakee counties. Friday afternoon, Kankakee reported a County-wide record 238 new cases in a single day.
IDPH warned cautioned against holiday travel this week, posting guidance for residents. A similar travel advisory was issued earlier this year when the pandemic first began.
Illinois is now closing in on 500,000 cases since the pandemic began. Saturday, the agency had reported 477,978 cases since March, including 10,154 deaths. Seven day statewide rolling positivity in Illinois was 10.3% Saturday.
