Chicago, IL – Scattered thunderstorms, with localized wind gusts exceeding 50 mph and potential hail, are forecasted along Illinois’ I-39 corridor until 5:30 PM today.

The US National Weather Service Chicago warns of cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy downpours as these systems move east from western Illinois. Areas highlighted include Rockford, Dixon, DeKalb, and Ottawa, with storms potentially continuing beyond this time frame.

Additionally, the service advises on heightened weather awareness into the evening, particularly for outdoor activities, as gusty thunderstorms may bring damaging winds across wider areas, including Joliet and Pontiac. Residents are urged to stay updated through multiple weather alert systems and to seek shelter during thunderstorm activity.
