Iroquois County, IL – Amazon Truck-Trailer Engulfed in Flames on I-57, Thousands of Pounds of Merchandise Lost

Iroquois County, IL – In the early hours of Friday, an Amazon truck-trailer caught fire on I-57 near Ashkum, Illinois, leading to a massive loss of merchandise. 

According to Ashkum Fire, the fire department was called to the scene at the 289 mile-marker on the northbound side of I-57 just after 3 am. On arrival, firefighters found the semi-tractor and the front part of the trailer fully engulfed in flames.

With assistance from the Gilman and Chebanse Township Fire Departments and heavy equipment provided by Central Body Repair, the blaze was successfully extinguished by 7 am. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. 

The incident resulted in the destruction of approximately 23,000 pounds of Amazon merchandise. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
