Kankakee, IL – A Kankakee resident’s quick thinking and protective pets thwarted a break-in attempt this weekend in the vicinity of W. Water Street and W. Hawkins Street.

According to local reports, the homeowner encountered a potential intruder shortly after her boyfriend left the residence. The family’s dogs became agitated and barked fiercely, which may have deterred the individual from entering the home.

Police have increased patrols in the neighborhood following the incident. Residents are urged to secure their homes and consider installing surveillance equipment as a precaution.
