Kankakee, IL: Teen Hiding in Bush with Gun Arrested After School Vicinity Shooting

Kankakee, IL – A tense Monday evening unfolded as gunshots were heard near a local high school. Kankakee City Police have now confirmed the arrest of 18-year-old Carlos Lopez in connection with the incident.

Around 7:15 PM, officers responded to the 1100 block of West Jeffrey Street, where shell casings were later discovered. Following a brief foot pursuit, Lopez was found concealing himself in a bush on South 8th Avenue, along with a recovered firearm.

Witnesses reported seeing an individual matching Lopez’s description firing a gun from an apartment balcony. Lopez faces charges including aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful weapon use by a minor.
