KANKAKEE – Friday afternoon, Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong filed petitions to gain ballot access for the 2021 mayoral elections in the City of Kankakee as a part of her re-election campaign.
“I’m thrilled to take a big step forward today, as our campaign for the future of Kankakee ramps up,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong. “The signatures I’m submitting today are more than just names on a page. They represent the people of our community, their engagement in the political process, and their hopes for better days ahead. I’m humbled that so many Kankakeeans stepped up to help get me on the ballot in 2021, and I’m ready to keep fighting for the future of everyone in this city with another term in the Mayor’s Office.”
The Mayor’s re-election team reports over 350 signatures were submitted to the Kankakee County Clerk’s Office, more than 10 times the amount needed to gain ballot access in the city’s 2021 municipal elections.
“I’m so proud that our campaign has the support of a diverse group of residents from every corner of Kankakee,” Mayor Wells-Armstrong said. “It means a great deal to me that we are submitting signatures from every single ward in the City of Kankakee. Together, I know we can keep building a community where more people can dream, grow, and thrive.”
Mayor Wells-Armstrong launched her re-election campaign on the banks of the Kankakee River in the city’s Bird Park back in August. Her campaign is centered on enhancing public safety, fostering economic development, addressing housing issues, improving delivery of city services, and promoting social justice. In the months to come, the Mayor will continue to share her administration’s record of accomplishment in these areas while also engaging with the people of Kankakee on a shared vision for continued progress on these issues.
“I look forward to continuing to connect with the people of our city – even if it’s over Zoom – and make the case for how our team can keep delivering real results for our community in the years ahead,” Mayor Wells-Armstrong said. “From the campaign trail to City Hall, I’m going to keep fighting for the people of this city every single day.”
The Consolidated Primary Election for Mayor of Kankakee will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, with the Consolidated Election taking place on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
