Knoxville, TN – Knox County Sheriff Announces Cancer Diagnosis, Promoting Transparency

Knoxville, TN – Sheriff Tom Spangler of Knox County revealed in a heartfelt letter to the community that he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. 

According to the sheriff’s statement, the cancer was caught early, and the prognosis is excellent. He expressed steadfast commitment to his role and the citizens of Knox County while also asking for privacy and prayers as he navigates this challenging period. Sheriff Spangler emphasized the strength of his team and reassured residents that the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office would continue without disruption. 

He acknowledged that while he will miss community events during his treatment to protect his immune system, he will remain active within the office. The sheriff, who also identifies as a husband, father, and grandfather, thanked the community for their support.
