LAKE COUNTY, IL – Two canine units from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department clinched significant victories in a recent multistate contest, showcasing their unparalleled skills and rigorous training.
Deputies John Forlenza with K9 Dax and Kevin Harris with K9 Zeus represented Lake County in the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Region #19 Police Dog/Detector Dog Trial in Port Huron, Michigan. They faced off against 32 top K9 teams from multiple states in challenges like tracking, narcotics searching, and cadaver detection.
K9 Dax, under the guidance of Deputy Forlenza, took home first place honors in obedience, article search, suspect search, tracking, and cadaver detection. The duo also achieved third place in criminal apprehension. Meanwhile, Deputy Harris and K9 Zeus secured second place in article search, suspect search, tracking, and cadaver detection.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg praised the deputies and their K9 partners, stating, “Our ten canine teams are truly an incredible asset to Lake County. I could not be prouder of Deputies Forlenza, Harris, and their K9 partners!”
