KANKAKEE – Thanks to the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s (IHDA) Strong Communities Program, three localities in the 40th District are set for a financial infusion to spruce up their communities. This revitalizing move, championed by State Senator Patrick Joyce (D-Essex), will provide essential funding towards affordable housing and community renewal.
Joyce articulated the urgency, noting, “Vacant properties all over the region that are not serving their purpose, communities or residents. purpose, communities or residents,” said Joyce (D-Essex). “It’s funding like this that allows local governments to restore these neighborhoods and other community areas in order to make them purposeful once again.
Chicago Heights and Park Forest are each slated to receive $712,000, with Kankakee County getting $487,000.
IHDA Executive Director Kristin Faust expressed that these funds will not only rejuvenate these neighborhoods but also convert them into revenue-generating assets, easing the pressure on local budgets.
