CHICAGO, IL – Following an alert from the Palos Park Police Department warning residents about a roofing scam targeting elderly neighbors, Chicago area residents are being urged to be on the lookout for similar scams.
The Palos Park Police Department has reported receiving multiple calls about the scam, which involves aggressive scammers either coming to the door or calling after obtaining personal information from the internet.
The scammer will claim to be in the area and coming to inspect the roof, then tell the homeowner that they need an immediate repair or replacement. They may even claim to have done work on the roof before, despite having no previous connection to the property.
Shady roofers have been known to create damage themselves or exaggerate existing damage, giving legitimate home improvement companies a bad name. The Palos Park Police Department is urging residents to warn their elderly neighbors and to contact them immediately if they receive any suspicious calls or visits.
Chicago area residents should take note of the Palos Park warning and be alert for any similar scams. If you suspect you have been targeted by a roofing scam, do not give out personal information or money, and contact your local police department for assistance.
