TINLEY PARK, IL – In the midst of their 6-year-old son Joshua’s courageous battle against a rare kidney cancer, the Tinley Park community has rallied around his family in a heartwarming way. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of local contractor Daniel from Daniel’s Home Remodeling, Joshua’s family recently received a much-needed new roof for their home.
Daniel, who has a special needs child of his own, refused any payment, covering 100% of the materials and labor needed to repair the family’s roof. This act of selflessness ensured that Joshua’s home would be safe and secure during his treatment, providing some much-needed peace of mind for the family during this challenging time.
The incredible gesture was made possible through Project Fire Buddies, a nonprofit organization that has grown to encompass more than 30 different departments, including Tinley Park, Bourbonnais, Orland Park, and others. Joshua, who is a member of the Tinley Park Fire Department Firefighter’s Association chapter, had previously received support from the Fire Buddies, who organized a video call with his favorite wrestling star, Bill Goldberg.
Joshua’s journey began in May 2022 when he was diagnosed as a preschooler with Wilms tumor, a rare kidney cancer that predominantly affects children. Doctors discovered a tumor on his left kidney and promptly removed it. Joshua has since gone through six rounds of radiation and nine months of chemotherapy as part of his treatment.
