PARK FOREST, IL – Two Grandparents have been arrested and charged with Murder following the death of their 5-year-old granddaughter from Park Forest.

According to Park Forest Police, it began Friday night after police responded to a distress call made by the Grandfather, Klent Elwoods.  Elwoods admitted during the call he had abused his granddaughter and she was unresponsive.  Paramedics arriving on the scene in the 300 block of Osage Street administered CPR and other lifesaving measures on the scene before rushing the girl to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Hospital.

She was airlifted to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, and succumbed to her injuries Saturday morning.

Following her death, Detectives discovered additional signs of previous abuses on the girl.  Investigators report both grandparents admitted to abusing the girl in subsequent interviews. Authorities arrested the girl’s grandparents, 62-year-old Klent Elwoods and 57-year-old Lisa Jones on First Degree Murder charges following her death.

“The Park Forest Police Department expressed its deepest condolences to Jada’s grieving family and friends, emphasizing the sorrow they share over the loss of a young life,” Police said Sunday night. “This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting the most vulnerable members of our society and the responsibility we all bear in ensuring their well-being.”

Both grandparents will appear in Markham Courthouse on Monday.
