MADISON COUNTY, Illinois – A devastating crash unfolded early Wednesday on Illinois’ Interstate 70 near milepost 27, involving a Greyhound bus and three parked commercial vehicles.
The Illinois State Police (ISP) have confirmed that three individuals lost their lives in the crash, while multiple others suffered serious injuries. As a result of the incident, several lanes of westbound Interstate 70 remain closed as of 5:30 am, with only one lane open between mileposts 28 and 24.
According to the Greyhound Bus company, the bus was en route from Indianapolis to Saint Louis when the collision occurred. Preliminary investigation by the ISP indicates that the Greyhound bus was traveling westbound on I-70 and collided with the three parked commercial motor vehicles on the exit ramp leading to the Silver Lake rest area.
Emergency responders swiftly transported the injured to a nearby hospital, with four individuals requiring helicopter transportation and at least ten others being taken by ambulance.
No identification has been released associated with the deaths. No injuries were reported among the occupants of the commercial vehicles.
