SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) has reported encouraging employment data for May.

According to preliminary data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and IDES, Illinois experienced an increase of 2,500 nonfarm payrolls, while the unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 4.1 percent. Sectors such as Government (+2,600), Financial Activities (+1,900), and Leisure and Hospitality (+1,400) saw notable job gains, while Construction (-2,400), Manufacturing (-1,700), and Information (-800) experienced declines.

The narrowing gap between the state and national unemployment rates indicates progress, with Illinois showcasing sustained economic stabilization. These positive trends provide opportunities for jobseekers and potential for businesses to expand with local talent.
