MICHIGAN CITY, IN – A civilian employee of Indiana State Prison is fighting for his life after being brutally assaulted by an inmate on Monday afternoon.
According to preliminary investigations by detectives with the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division Lowell Post, the incident took place when inmates were working in the steel shop.
The argument between the inmate and the victim escalated into violence, with the former hitting the supervisor on the head with a steel pipe. The victim suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and was rushed to South Bend Memorial Hospital. He remains in critical condition.
The suspect, Jeremy W. Davidson, 39, from Logansport, IN, is currently serving a sentence for multiple counts of child molestation and has been transferred to another facility after being taken into custody. His scheduled release date is in the year 2192.
The assault has raised concerns about the safety of civilian employees working in correctional facilities and has sparked calls for improved security measures. The investigation is ongoing, and the LaPorte County Prosecutor will determine charges based on the outcome of the investigation.
