JOLIET – An inmate was found unresponsive Friday and later died at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, it happened at 11:44 p.m. last night when the unidentified 78-year-old inmate from Crest Hill whose been incarcerated since early July was found unresponsive by staff inside the medical unit at the Facility.

Personnel from both the Will County Sheriff’s Office and members of Joliet Fire Emergency Medical Services reportedly attempted to resuscitate the inmate, but the inmate died on the scene.

The Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the in-custody death.

An autopsy conducted Saturday reportedly suggested the inmate died as a result of him having a medical emergency.  Further testing and toxicology results are pending.
