Stolen Merch attempt ends badly for Three at Dick’s Saturday

SCHERERVILLE – An attempt to steal merchandise from a Dick’s Sporting Goods over the weekend ended with three in custody and one of the trio in the hospital.

According to Schererville Police Department, it happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon when police were called to Dick’s Sporting Goods at 101 Indianapolis Blvd and ran into the trio trying to flee the scene with stolen merchandise. 

During the getaway attempt, the suspects tried running their vehicle into a police squad SUV.  Officers responding to the scene shot at the fleeing subjects, hitting one.  That person is now hospitalized, their condition unknown.  The two other suspects in the vehicle were taken into custody.

The area remained blocked off for hours while an investigation and cleanup took place.  The shooting remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
