Legionnaire’s Disease Confirmed at Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy

QUINCY, IL – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) confirm one case of Legionnaire’s Disease at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy Friday afternoon.

Enhanced protocols for resident monitoring and water testing are in place, while IDPH investigates the source of the infection.

According to IDPH, the infected resident is doing well at the moment experiencing mild symptoms and undergoing recovery efforts.

Legionellosis is not contagious, and the affected resident is recovering well. The safety of veterans in care is a top priority, with ongoing efforts to monitor water quality and resident health. Residents, families, and powers of attorney have been notified, and IDPH and IDVA continue to work closely to protect residents and staff.
