MANTENO, IL – Residents are being urged to secure their golf carts after a series of thefts in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police are currently investigating the thefts, which took place on Willow Rd and in the area of the Manteno High School. The carts were taken directly from driveways, according to authorities.

No word on exactly how many golf carts were taken.

Golf carts have become increasingly popular modes of transportation in communities across the country, and as such, they have become targets for thieves.

The Manteno Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying the suspects involved in these crimes. Police are also reminding residents to take precautions in securing their property to help prevent future incidents.

NationalCarts.com suggests some of the best ways to secure your golf cart include storing it in a locked garage or shed, installing a unique key, adding a hidden kill switch, adding a locking mechanism, and installing a GPS.

The Manteno Police Department is urging residents to check any video surveillance footage for any suspicious activity between the hours of Midnight and 6AM on Wednesday morning. Anyone with information regarding the crimes is asked to contact the Manteno Police Department at (815) 929-4801.

With the growing popularity and accessibility of golf carts, it is important now more than ever to protect your cart against theft.
