Two women dead after SUV flips in Iroquois County

ONARGA – Two women are dead after a SUV being chased by police crossed traffic and caused a deadly three car accident.

According to Illinois State Police it happened around 5 p.m. Monday night when Paxton police were following a Mercedes Benz southbound on Route 45.  

During the chase the driver of the SUV, 44-year-old Kristin Walls Hernandez of Buckley, lost control of the vehicle snd swerved into an oncoming Jeep Wrangler head on before hitting another vehicle.

Both Hernandez and the driver of the Jeep Wrangler, 65-year-old Julie McGowen of Rantoul, died at the scene.

No word has been given on what initially caused that chase to begin.
