The Manteno Police Department announced this morning that beginning next month, to celebrate Manteno’s Sesquicentennial (1889-2019) some area officers will begin wearing new badges on their uniforms.

The throwback commemorative badges carry the title of “Village Marshal,” just as the first officers in Manteno were known, along with the Illinois State Seal in the center in copper.  Each badge is also consecutively numbered to denote seniority, just as done during the early days of policing.

Chief Swinford has authorized a commemorative badge design, which each officer had the option to purchase and wear on duty.  Just as the current badges, silver represents patrol officers while gold denotes the rank of sergeant and above.
