HOBART, IN – Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a bizarre retail theft incident that escalated into a physical altercation.

The incident took place on Friday, May 12th, at a wig store located on 1900 East 80th Avenue in Hobart.

According to Hobart Police via surveillance footage on scene, the suspect discreetly concealed a wig within the front of his pants while inside the store.  An employee spotted him on the surveillance camera and immediately confronted the suspect, demanding that he remove the stolen wig from his pants. The suspect handed over the pilfered wig and hastily exited the store. Moments later, he returned and took the wig once more, grabbing an additional wig next to it.

This time, the employee attempted to stop the suspect at the door, but this time it took a violent turn as the suspect began to physically assaulting the store employee multiple times, eventually pushing them into a store display. The suspect then fled the scene with multiple wigs made out of human hair, each reportedly worth several hundred dollars.

Hobart Police are asking the public for information to aid in identifying and arresting the suspect.  Anyone with information to the case is asked to contact Lieutenant Nicholas Wardrip at 219-942-4485 or via email at nwardrip@cityofhobart.org.
